The Real You

By Liz Hazzard. A poem from the perspective of a spouse, moving from confusion to acceptance.

I first had suspicions, though I wasn't sure why,
Something was different, I couldn't say why.
Then one day I discovered your feminine clothes,
And slowly the truth of your life, it arose.

The questions came flooding — who are you, what's real?
How do I understand all that you feel?
But slowly I've learned, and slowly I've grown,
To love the true person that you have now shown.

I will support the real person inside of you.
